Our EUEI team have been working on an exciting European initiative focused on supporting refugees into sustainable careers. The Welcome Work Project connects individuals with opportunities in the construction sector, while helping employers and educators create more inclusive and supportive environments.
Across Europe, the construction industry is facing a growing skills shortage, while many refugees are looking for pathways into employment. This project brings those two needs together—supporting integration while helping to strengthen the workforce.
At the centre of the project is a set of practical, easy-to-use resources. The Starter Kit offers guidance, tools and real-world examples for VET providers, employers and support organisations working with refugees, helping to bridge the gap between training and employment.
The project also highlights inspiring examples through its Good Practices and the wider Good Practice Compendium. These showcase real experiences from across Europe, covering both practical elements—such as legal frameworks and skills recognition—and the human side of integration, including language support and workplace inclusion.
To support flexible learning, the project includes a mobile training app, allowing users to access content anytime, anywhere. This mobile-first approach helps remove barriers to learning and supports refugees in building relevant skills at their own pace.

The Welcome Work Project is a collaborative effort between partners across Europe, combining expertise in education, construction and social inclusion. For the EUEI team, it has been an opportunity to contribute to a project that delivers both practical tools and meaningful social impact.
